Talking to a stranger is the one conversation with no baggage. Nobody knows your history, nobody is keeping score, and if it goes nowhere you both move on and no one remembers. That is not a small thing. It is the reason people have been doing it online for twenty years, and the reason the searches never stopped when the old sites closed.

What talking to strangers is good for

Not everything, and it is worth being honest about which things. The conversations that work tend to fall into a few kinds.

• Saying the thing you cannot say to people who know you. A stranger has no stake in your life, which is exactly why it is easier to be honest with one. This is most of the value and the hardest to get anywhere else.
• A perspective from somewhere you have never been. Match with someone in another country and the small talk is different, because their normal is not yours.
• Practising a language with a real person who is not grading you and will not see you again.
• Filling ten dead minutes without opening the same three apps. Low stakes, and sometimes it turns into something better than that.

How to actually get a conversation, not a coin flip

Pure random pairing sounds romantic and is mostly a slot machine: you spin until you hit someone worth talking to, and skip the rest. A few habits change the odds a lot.

1. Add interests before you start. This is the single biggest lever. chatsizzle matches on what you have in common, so one honest interest is the difference between “hey” going nowhere and landing on someone who already cares about the thing. 2. Open with something they can answer. “Hi” puts all the work on the other person. A question about the interest you both picked does not. If you are stuck, the conversation starter generator will hand you openers that actually get a reply.
3. Choose a name and Start. Interests are optional. A match depends on another person being available; while waiting you can explore Rooms, People or the Wall without stopping your search.

Talking to strangers safely

The whole thing is safe as long as it stays anonymous, and stops being safe the moment it does not. The rules are short and they are the same everywhere, not just here.

• Give nothing that identifies you. Not your full name, your town, your school or workplace, or your other accounts. Anonymity is the safety feature. Do not trade it away to be friendly.
• Never send money, ever, for any reason. Anyone who asks a stranger for money is running a script, and it is run at scale.
• Assume any photo can be kept. A screenshot always works, on every site, no matter what the site promises. Never send a picture you would mind a stranger having forever. The full safety guide is here, including what to do if someone tries to extort you.
• Move away from anyone steering you off the site. The reason they want you on another app is that it has no report button.

What we do

• Choose a name and Start. Interests are optional. A match depends on another person being available; while waiting you can explore Rooms, People or the Wall without stopping your search.
• Everything is free. There is no paid tier and nothing held back to sell you later.
• Interests and language, age and gender preferences rank available people. They do not guarantee a match or a shared interest. Blocks and access rules still apply.
• In private chats and rooms, incoming messages in other languages are translated into your language, and the original always stays visible underneath. In Chrome and Edge this happens on your own device, and no message text leaves your browser. In other browsers, including Safari, Firefox and most phones, the message text is sent through our server to DeepL for translation, and nothing else is sent with it. You can switch incoming translation off in Preferences; the person you are talking to can still translate what you send them.
• Reporting a live chat ends it and prevents another match with that connection. A moderator can review the reported material and apply sanctions. Inbox reports preserve evidence separately from the message's expiration.
• Chatting with a specific friend is one link. Share your invite and whoever opens it is paired with you directly, which is also the fastest way to make a quiet hour feel less quiet.

What we do not

• No video or voice. chatsizzle is text and photos today. Video is planned and not built. If that is the only thing you came for, we are not it yet, and we would rather say so.
• We cannot stop a screenshot. Photos disappear on a timer, and a recipient has their name and the time stamped into any picture before they see it, which deters a lazy re-share. It does not prevent one. No site can.
• Ages are self-declared. You must be at least 13 to use chatsizzle, and nobody, us included, has verified anything a stranger tells you about themselves.
• We are small, and we will not fake being big. At quiet hours you may wait for a match. The number of people online is the real number, never padded with bots or ghosts.
